Anna Clare is a sporting artist with a particular interest in British Game Birds. After being awarded the art scholarship at Stowe School she continued her training at the Florentine atelier Charles H Cecil studios, undergoing a rigorous four years of education, practising the naturalistic tradition of ‘sight-size’. Anna Clare’s painting style acknowledges the classical training she received in Florence whilst taking a more contemporary approach.
Large scale oil paintings show to great advantage the beauty and strength of game birds and birds of prey. The complexity of catching the movement of a pair of hen harrier mid-flight, or a grouse flying towards you, provides a unique challenge for the artist. When seen at close quarters, the visual impact of a bird in motion makes for a truly arresting image.
Working mainly from her St Paul’s Studio in Talgarth Road, she takes commissions in oil and charcoal. Her London studio always has a selection of current work which can be viewed by private appointment. Daisy, the English Bull Terrier, is often found at the studio, making a good companion and, on occasion, reluctant model.
